Coins Have Stories To Tell At Annual Beach Show

John Kolos has a penny for your thoughts.

He also can show off paper money and ancient coins while explaining the history behind each piece.

"Each coin represents a time of the past that can tell a story," Kolos said. "Coins are like preserved, living history."

Kolos, 53, helped organize the annual Virginia Beach Coin Show, which will be held this weekend at the Virginia Beach Convention Center. A coin auction will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday.

"This is the biggest coin show in our area," said Chesapeake resident Guy Clark, president of the Tidewater Coin Club. "It's something the whole family can enjoy."

The nonprofit Tidewater Coin Club is dedicated to collectors' numismatic needs and to educating others about the history of coinage, according to the group's Web site. read more
